WAM's Scholar-in-Residence Program

Once a month, the West Ashley Minyan hosts a scholar in residence.  The events are structured around our shabbat services.  Over the winter months, the programs have included shabbat dinner after evening services, followed by an address from the visiting scholar.

The scholar speaks again at shabbat morning and afternoon services, and arrangements often include afternoon classes as well.  Baby-sitting is arranged to allow parents to attend the talks, and for talks to occur with due decorum.

Usually, though not always, a Malava Malke gathering is arranged for Saturday evening after shabbat.

In the summer, instead of the Friday night dinner, a kiddush lunch is held after Saturday morning services. Visitors are welcome, but one will need to make reservations.

Eruv in JCC area

The eruv serving the area of the Jewish Community Center and the new West Ashley Minyan has been officially certified. It was set up with assistance and review of Rabbi Barry Freundell from Washington. Thanks to everyone who helped set it up, especially Randy Cohen.
